Minutes of The Culture and Physical Education Committee’s First Meeting held in Ibis Hotel, Salmiya, Kuwait on Tue 12/5/2009 at 5 PM
The Culture and Physical Education Committee of WAGF held its first meeting on Tuesday, 12/5/2009 at the meeting hall of the Hotel Ibis, in Salmiya, Kuwait at 5.00 PM.
and the meeting was attended by:

Ms. Nuha Jamil Hattar - Committee Member
Mr. Srhenk Abdul Khaliq Abdullah – Committee Member
Dr. Husain Zayed Almekaimi - WAGF’s Director General
The following Members were absent:-
Mr. Tariq Abdullah - Chairman of the Committee
Mr. Mohamed Alamasi - Committee member
The proceedings of the meeting
Opening:
The meeting was opened by Dr. Husain Al-Mekaimi with words of gratitude and appreciation to the members of the Committee for attending the Committee's first meeting, and conveyed the greetings of Sheikh Talal Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, President of the Federation of West Asian Games, and his eagerness to hold the meeting attended , including members of view, for the delay of the committee in holding its first meeting compared with the rest of the committees of the West Asian Games Federation, which held their meetings and raised their reports and recommendations to the WAGF ‘s Board of Directors.
Dr. Al-Mekaimi conveyed the apology of Mr. Tariq Abdullah, Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Mohamed Alamasi, a member of the Committee, for being unable to attend the meeting because of unforeseen circumstances.
Given the absence of the Chairman of the Culture and Physical Education Committee, Dr. Al-Mekaimi asked the three members to vote for the selection of a Committee Coordinator among themselves to preside and run the meeting.
Resolutions:
The members agreed to nominate Mr. Fahd Hamlan, as a Coordinator of the Culture and Physical Education Committee of the West Asian Games Federation.
After thanking the members of the Committee for the confidence they had placed in him, Mr. Fahd Hamlan stressed the importance of the Culture and Physical Education Committee to the mind and body together, and its role in the dissemination and development of cultural activities during the sports tournaments, and its contributions in raising awareness on issues and related matters , the attendance began to discuss items agenda as follows:
Item (1): Access to the functions of the Culture and Physical Education Committee
Has been viewed and discussed the functions and responsibilities of the Culture and physical education Committee, according to article (30) of the West Asian Games Federation’s Constitution.
Item (2): Scope of the work of the Committee
The Committee Members discussed the following programs as a start point of committee’s scope of work to determine ways and means that should be applied to enable the committee to achieve these programs:
• Contribute to and promote the committees of the West Asian Games Federation in the development and organization of cultural activities, sports and education through various events.
• The promotion of physical education as an essential part in modern society in the member countries of the West Asian Games Federation.
• To cooperate actively with permanent Olympic Academies and attempt to create a more academies in the West Asian Countries.
• Support and develop the arts and sports programs emanating from the International Olympic Committee, through the channels of communication with the West Asian Games Federation.
Item (3): Committee‘s Proposals and Recommendations
1. Encourage the Western Asia Countries for the establishment of Education Culture and Sports in cooperation with the National Olympic Committees and official bodies.
2. The issuance and printing of posters, booklets and flyers, including specific ideas as attached in the appropriate venues for the Games and Olympic sports events stresses the importance of sport and the environment to the public.
3. Hold seminars and host professionals to conduct lectures and present studies related to the field of culture and physical education in coordination with the International Olympic Committee.
4. Contribute in encouraging the Olympic committee members to involve school children in the presentations of the opening and closing tournaments and sports championships.
5. Request the Secretariat-General to provide the Committee with the names of Olympic Academies in the West Asian Games Federation, and the activities engaged to cooperate and coordinate with them in matters related to the functions and responsibilities of the Committee, and to encourage other countries in West Asia for the establishment of the academies.
6. Encourage to hold sport games other than the recognized sports by the Olympia only.
7. Community awareness in the countries of West Asia and to encourage the creation of special places, such as parks, where individuals and families practice sport.
8. Cooperation with the Ministries of Education in the West Asian Games Federation, to strengthen the sport in the school curriculum because of the key role of these schools in the inculcation of sports culture.
9. Cooperation and coordination with the media of the West Asian Games Federation for the deployment of the sports culture in the National Olympic Committees of the West Asian Countries.
Item (4): Date of Next Meeting
Committee’s next meeting will be determined and the members will be notified of the time and place later.
The Minutes is closed and the meeting ended at 6.15 PM.
