Minutes of Women Committee’s First Meeting held in Holiday-Inn Down Town Hotel, Kuwait on Saturday 8/11/2008 at 15.00 Hrs

And as per invitation sent by the Committee Chairman Sheikha Hayat Bint Abdulaziz  Al Khalifa, the attendees had the honour of the participation of Sheikha Naeema Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al-Sabah – the Chairman, Women Games Organization Committee in GCC Countries.  

Meeting Proceedings
  Item (1):     Opening & Welcome Speech  
The meeting started with the welcome speech of Sheikha Hayat  Al Khalifa  to the Committee Members and the attendees. She also thanked Sheikha Naeema Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah – Chairman, Women Games Organization Committee in GCC Countries for her exalt care to Women’s Committee Members and her unlimited support to Women’s Sport.   Sheikh Naeema Al-Sabah expressed her thanks and gratitude for the invitation received from Sheikha Hayat Al-Khalifa inviting her to attend Women’s Committee first meeting. She expressed her joy and happiness for being among the Committee Members, and showed her readiness and preparedness to assist and support Women’s Committee Members to achieve their objectives, and wished them all the success.     Sheikha Hayat Al Khalifa, the Committee Chairman, also conveyed her special thanks and gratitude to WAGF’s President H.E Sheikh Talal Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah for his outstanding effort, and praised his continuous work to upraise and enhance the sports in West Asia , and his unlimited support to improve Women’s Sport in this region, and his role and impress in WAGF’s achievements.   She expressed her thanks also to the General Secretariat of West Asian Games Federation headed by Dr. Husain Al-Mekaimi for his exerted effort and his cooperation with the Chairman and the Committee Members, and his coordination with them for the preparation of Committee’s meetings .  

Item (2):     Committee’s Work Plan and Recommendations          
The Committee Members reviewed Committee’s work plan and agreed on the following:-   To coordinate and collaborate with National Olympic Committees, Members in the Federation, to crystallize the plans and re-form the programs which enhance Women’s Sport and its achievement.   To establish sub-committees for Women’s Sport in all National Olympic Committees and Native Federations of Federation Members handle planning and follow-up under Olympic Committees supervision.   To collaborate with National Olympic Committees to put strategic plans starting with School Athletics, being an essential core of Women athletic foundation, that will qualify them to compete and hold advanced positions in regional and international championships .   To work with National Olympic Committees to support women’s participation in West Asian , Regional, Continental and International Championships utilizing Members professional training centers to prepare qualified personnel technically and administratively.    To organize and hold training programs/sessions to qualify women to carry out administrative and arbitrative works , with the assistance of the National Olympic Committees.   Support Women’s participation  in training sessions, lectures, and athletics conferences, regionally and internally.   Coordinate, collaborate and follow-up with Women’s Committee of OCA (Olympic Council of Asia) and other relevant committees.   Coordinate and collaborate with the Organizing Committee of Women’s sport in GCC Countries, International Olympic Committee, Regional Institutions, and other Committees which deal and take care of women’s sport.  

  Committee’s Recommendations & Decisions:  
1) The Committee recommends the importance of establishing training centers in schools, especially in countries that do not have such centers, with necessity of finding Trainers ,men and women, with high qualification, and to utilize the Olympic Fund to secure financial support.  
a.       To hold training courses/sessions in Islamic Republic of IRAN to qualify women  to carry out arbitration works (Arbitrators Graduation) in Basketball during the month of February, giving opportunity for three candidates from each country. These courses/sessions will have three levels as per International Regulations. The candidates should have continuous follow-up of the different training stages showing high performance. At the end of each three levels of program/session, the candidates will be granted graduation certificate with International Arbitration Badges. The anticipated dates for holding these programs/sessions  
b.      To hold a training program/session in UAE:-  
Basketball        :           February 2009 (Arbitration Course)
Ping-pong         :           June 2009   (Arbitration Course)    

   2) The Committee recommended the importance of women’s participation in local tournament in  several games under the supervision of Olympic Committee to prepare qualified basis and foundation.  
3) Sheikha Hayat Al Khalifa and Sheikha Naeema Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah will pay visits to the Member Countries to have meeting with concerned personnel of Olympic Committees and others to sustain Woman’s Sport developing plans and her participation in Regional and International tournaments. 
4) The Committee recommended to form a permanent committee emanated from National Olympic Committee wherein its members consist of both sexes (male, female) to gain more experience and benefit from males.  
5)  Sheikha Naeema Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah expressed her complete readiness to provide all necessary support to the Committee in item (4) above.  
6)  Coordinate with WAGF’s Board of Directors to create Information and Statistics data basis which contribute in the objectives achievement. The Women’s Committee recommends the Secretariat General to address the Information and Statistics Committee regarding this issue.  
  7)  Since the number of WACF Members are (13) and the number of Women’s Committee is (6), it has been agreed to distribute the tasks among the Committee Members to cover the rest of the countries members in WAGF as follows:  
a.       Sheikha Hayat Bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa : Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Bahrain, Kuwait.  
b.      Mrs. Roula Aasi : Palestine, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon.  
c.       Mrs Amina Al-Nahdi : UAE, Qatar.  
d.      Mrs. Farida Al-Sibani:  Oman.  
e.       Mr. Mandana Rasouli :  The Islamic Republic of Iran.  
f.        Mrs. Basima Al-Ariki :  Yemen.  

8)  To raise periodical reports of Committee’s work process to the Board of Directors of WAGF as per set plans and programs.  
Item (3):     Any Other Subject (AOS)  
Under this item the incoming letters to Women’s Committee have been reviewed , and discussed other subjects mentioned below:-  
1)  Incoming Letters to the Committee:  
a)  A letter from Sheikha Naeema Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al- Sabah expressing her thanks and conveying her thanks and greetings to the Members of the Women’s Committee. The letter includes several suggestions. The Committee Chairman Sheikha Hayat Bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa conveyed her thanks to Sheikha Naeema Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for her letter and added that she will raise a letter on behalf of Women’s Committee to H.E Sheikh Talal Fahad Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah to ensure that the Women’s Committee will do its best to fulfill the suggestions mentioned in the letter . She added that two of the suggestions had already been discussed and they are on the process of achievement, and the rest of the suggestions will come on the Agenda of Committee’s next meeting.     
b)       A letter from Mrs. Amina Al-Nahdi (the President of Green Jaddah Team) addressed to Sheikha Hayat Al Khalifa  expressing the wish to participate in Sharja’s 2009 Clubs Championship, following the example of their participation in previous championships. Since they had been informed that this championship has been listed under the Organizing Committee of GCC Countries, therefore she requests WAGF’s support  .  
In this regard, Sheikha hayat Al Khalifa told that she will advise WAGF President H.E Sheikh Talal Fahad Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah about the content of the letter for his opinion and guidance. Mrs. Amina’s letter included a copy of video cassette of the previous tournament wherein they participated in Sharjah’s Women Clubs Championship.   2)  Mr. Mandana Rasouli suggested to change the title of “The  First Women Committee Meeting” to read :  “The First Women & Sport Committee Meeting”.   Sheikha Hatat Al Khalifa clarified that naming of the committee should tally with what is conventional in National Olympic Council (NOC), and approval of WAGF’s Executive Office, under the presidency of H.E Sheikh Talal Fahad Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah, is needed to implement a change.    
3)  Mrs. Mandana Rasouli distributed to the Members a Questionaire in English, which was already sent to the Olympic Committee, requesting the Committee Members to fill the questionnaire and send it back by e-mail as well as by Fax to the number: 00 98 21 22660918        
4)  The Women’s Committee Chairman recommended and requested from Federation’s General Secretariat to translate the papers  submitted to the meeting which include the Work Plan and Objectives of WAGF’s Women Committee, and send them translated, in Arabic and English ,to the Committee Members.        
5)  Sheikha Hayat Al Khalifa informed the Committee Members that she will send a cable, on behalf of Women’s Committee Members, to WAGF’s President H.E Sheikh Talat Fahad Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah expressing Members thanks and appreciation for hosting Committee’s First Meeting in Kuwait.  
The meeting concluded at 17.30 hrs.
